Complete Handwritten Kuntres of Torah Novellae by the Ksav Sofer. Pressburg, 1862.

Complete pamphlet - [title page plus 8-sides] all written by the holy hand of the Ksav Sofer, Harav Avraham Shmuel Binyamin Sofer, Av Beis Din and Rosh Yeshivah in Pressburg.

The Ksav Sofer Harav Avraham Shmuel Binyamin Sofer (1815-1873) succeeded his venerable father the Chasam Sofer as Av Beis Din and Rosh Yeshivah in Pressburg and perpetuated his sacred legacy in Torah.

“ He filled our fathers position to its fullest , and did not veer at all from his path and legacy, the Hand of Hashem was evident in all his ways…for Moshe [the Chasam Sofer] laid his hands upon him [to ordain him], and all his attributes are similar to the attributes of our father — his Torah, righteousness, humility and leadership.” [His brother, Harav Shimon Sofer, Ab"d Cracow in his introduction to Shu”t Ksav Sofer.]

When he was all of 24 years old, his father appointed him to be his successor as Rav and Rosh Yeshivah in Pressburg, a position he filled famously for the next 33 years. During the era of the Ksav Sofer, the celebrated Pressburg Yeshivah expanded and flourished, and he established legions of talmidim — thousands of outstanding Torah scholars who followed the sacred path of the Chasam Sofer and were the spiritual pillars of Jewish Hungary.

Pressburg, 1862 [4] handwritten, double-sided leaves; 8 sides plus title page. Good condition. Well-preserved in an ornate leather case.

The first printing of these novellae in Chiddushei Ksav Sofer on Maseches Ksubos (Jerusalem, 1973) was based on this manuscript.

From Father to Son…
During the Chasam Sofer’s final days, he placed his hands on the Ksav Sofer’s head and blessed him upon his acceptance of the Rabbanus in Pressburg: “Your grandfather Rabbi Akiva (Eiger) is on your right side. Your grandfather the Maharshashach is on your left side. An angel is above you, and I will also  follow you to fulfill your word”. The Ksav Sofer related that, during those moments,   his father’s hands were like a blazing fire on his head.
