Toldot Aharon, by Rabbi Aharon of Pesaro, first printed in Freiburg in 1583. In 1652 this book was republished in Amsterdam, with the addition (with a separate title page) of Toldot Yaakov, by Rabbi Yaakov Sasportas, with citations from the Jerusalem Talmud. In his preface, Rabbi Sasportas details the events that led to the publication of the book and the role played by “the Torah sage and sublime philosopher, the great and revered leader of Israel, our teacher and rabbi, Menashe ben Yisrael, ” whose idea it was to publish the book, and who even provided some of the financing for its publication.
