Glosses by the Gaon, the tzaddik Rabbi Eliyahu Gutmacher on tractate Bava Metzia, in his handwriting.
Five leaves of chiddushim and glosses on the entire tractate Bava Metzia, in the handwriting and with the signature of the tzaddik Rabbi Eliyahu Gutmacher, the Av Bet Din of Grodzisk, with later glosses that he added in the margins. He also signed his name on the last leaf, after a notation in his handwriting, that the glosses were his and in praise of his father.
The Gaon Rabbi Eliyahu Gutmacher (1796-1875), the greatest of the students of the Gaon Rabbi Akiva Eiger, was renowned throughout the Jewish Diaspora as a holy and exemplary person.
“The great and holy Gaon, our teacher Rabbi Gutmacher, whose soul is equal to thousands of Jewish souls – in his Torah knowledge, his piety, his wisdom of Kabbala and his exemplary character.” (Rabbi Zvi Hirsch Kalischer)
