The Gaon Rabbi Yaakov Rakkach (1800-1891) was a Torah giant in Tripoli, Libya. He was a rosh yeshiva, Kabbalist, poet and author of many books on a wide range of subjects.
The first part of his book Kol Yaakov consists of essays on the weekly parasha, and the latter part is the book Maggid Devarav Le’Yaakov on the Pesach Seder, insights from his forefathers on Pirkei Avot, Kol Bechi, commentary on the Book of Eicha, Tehillot La’E-l, on Psalms, allusions and gematriyas, and finally, five liturgical poems that he composed.
Inside the book is a gloss and signature by Rabbi Chaim Faladgi, a contemporary and friend of the author, who maintained correspondence with him. A few other glosses are in an unknown hand. There is also the signature of Yisrael Zvi Rokach.
