Philologus Hebraeo-Mixtus, Una cum Spicilegio Philologico, by Johann Leusden. Utrecht: Francisci Halma, 1682. Latin and some Hebrew. Second edition.
Study of Hebrew philology by Johann Leusden (1624-1699), a Dutch theologist and Hebraist, professor of Hebrew at the Utrecht University, who on top of his philological work, published together with the publisher Joseph Athias of Amsterdam a controversial edition of the bible.
The book is accompanied by nine fine engraved plates depicting, among other things, the Tabernacle, as well as various Jewish customs – baking Matzahs, lighting Sabbath candles, Chuppah and more.
[7] ff., 463, [9] pp. + [9] engraved plates (engraved title page and eight additional plates), 20 cm. Good condition. Some stains. Tears and minor blemishes to several leaves. Small open tears to two leaves, slightly affecting text. Minor worming, not affecting text or engravings. Handwritten ownership inscription on front endpaper (dated 1696). Vellum-covered binding, slightly worn, with stains and minor blemishes. Bookplate and sticker on inside front board.
