Sefer Mekor Chaim, halachot of ritual slaughter and treifut, Aden printing with glosses and chiddushim from HaRav Avraham ben Moshe Arusi, Yemen—Mekhuyat Yisrael, 19-20th century.
First printing, Aden 1894. Owned and with many glosses and chiddushim in the margins by Rav Avraham ben Moshe Arusi, who was born in Habban, central Yemen, in 1878. He was the student of Rav Yehi ben Rav Yehi Khamadi, and was certified for the rabbinate and dayanut by Beit Din Sana’a. He wandered around the cities of Yemen and described the city of Aden and its sages in one of his books. In 1920 he received a commission from the Beit Din of Sana’a to certify shochets and oversee and deal with kiddushin and divorces. In 1920, 1923 he signed on the meeting of representatives fo the Zionist Histadrut in London with heads of the Yemenite community. In 1923 he moved to Israel, settled in Tel Aviv, and at the end of his life moved to Petah Tikva; he died in 1934. 16 of his compositions are known to us, some of which are known amongst book producers and researchers and appear in the Encyclopedia of Yemenite Sages (p. 474-5, Arusi, Avraham). Book condition—worn, stains, broken pages, missing the first cover, some of the pages have water damage, disconnected binding.
