Yefeh Nof – Venice, After 1572 – First Edition of the Piyyutim Azamer BiShvachin, Asader LiSeudata and Bnei Heichala by the Arizal – Glosses
Yefeh Nof, texts for business letters; with various prayers and piyyutim. Venice: Zuan di Gara, [after 1572].
This book features three famous piyyutim for Shabbat meals by the Arizal – Azamer BiShvachin, Asader LiSeudata and Bnei Heichala, printed here for the first time, on leaf 40. These piyyutim are acrostics of the name of the Arizal, and are sung until this day in many Jewish homes during the Shabbat meals. Other piyyutim by the Arizal on leaf 39.
The Arizal is mentioned on the title page and at the end of the book with the blessing for the deceased; the book was therefore evidently printed after 1572.
Lengthy gloss on verso of title page, signed "Yitzchak Franc[is?] and dated 1722. Other glosses in the book.
Incomplete copy. 40 leaves. Lacking 6 final leaves, with additional prayers and supplications. 17.5 cm. Fair-good condition. Stains (including dampstains). Leaves trimmed, affecting headings or text at top of pages. Open tear to title page, affecting border, repaired. Tear to another leaf, repaired with paper. Worming to several leaves. Old binding.
