A porcelain Salt-water dish for the Passover Seder. Made in the US, c. 1910. Formed in the shape of an egg. A dish in the shape of a cracked egg positioned on three legs. Ornamentations in color on the dish and inscriptions in Yiddish, Hebrew and English. By an illustration of an egg on a blue plate and a crown, appears an inscription (Yiddish) "Salz Wasser" [salt water]. By an illustration of an open Haggadah inscribed in Hebrew "Ma Nishtana HaLayla / Haze Mikol Haleylot", appears an inscription in English: "Seder Salt Water". Surface of the dish ornamented in several places with images of green karpas.
Height: 16 cm. Very good condition. Marked on the reverse (maker's mark/serial number). See: Sotheby's, October 1996, item 223. Kedem Auctions, Sale 43, Item 132 (sold for $1230).
