A ‘Shana Tova’ letter from HaGaon Rabbi Yechezkel Levenstein zt”l.
A letter dating back to 1958, from Rabbi Levenstein to Rabbi Shlomo Brevda. Signed.
24 Lines. Size: 23.5. Good condition. Stain in the center does not affect the letter’s legibility.
Rabbi Levenstein was born in Warsaw in 1885. Upon reaching Bar Mitzva age he travelled to Radin, to learn in the Yeshiva there under the Chafetz Chaim. Rabbi Levenstein dedicated his life to the study of Torah and Mussar. He is respected as one of the Mussar giants.
Following a few years of study in Radin, he continued his learning in Yeshivat Kelm, and from there moved on to the large Yeshiva in the town of Mir. He came for two and a half years to the Land of Israel, and learned in Petach Tikva under Rabbi Reuven Katz zt”l. After hearing that the Mashgiach of Mir, Rabbi Yerucham zt”l, had passed away, he returned to Mir and resolved to fill the position of Mashgiach.
Rabbi Levenstein was one of the Mir Rabbanim who miraculously escaped to Shanghai together with the students, during the Holocaust. Ultimately, they arrived in America. From here they immigrated with most of the students to Israel. In time, Rabbi Levenstein moved from Yeshivat Mir to become the Mashgiach in Ponovezh, Bnei Brak. He passed away in 1974.
This letter is addressed to his primary disciple, Rabbi Shlomo Brevda, zt”l. Rabbi Shlomo learned under Rabbi Levenstein in Yeshivat Mir of America. He continued his learning in Lakewood Yeshiva. He passed away, following an illness in 2013.
Rabbi Levenstein wishes his student, “Kesiva Vachasima Tova, Amen”, in this letter.
