Manuscript. Speeches for Shabbat and the Holidays, contained in the books, ‘Lashon Tzedek’ and ‘Ketav Nivchar’.
Authored by Rabbi Yaakov Heilperin (Heilbron), Av Bet Din Ada.
Written in Senta, between the years 1840-1843.
156 Pages. Size: 19.5cm. Two volumes bound together.
Fantastic condition, includes original binding.
Rabbi Yaakov Heilperin (this is how he signs his name), was born in 1810, in Senta, to his father Rabbi Yitzchak Eizik Heilbron. Already in his youth, Rabbi Yaakov journeyed to Pressburg to learn under the Chatam Sofer zt”l, who described him as “outstanding in Torah”. Rabbi Yaakov trained for Rabbinical duties under his father, and in 1843 became the Rabbi of Ada.
The first part of the book is entitled ‘Lashon Tzedek’ and contains speeches for Shabbatot and Holidays. The second part of the book, ‘Ktav Nivchar’, follows after two empty pages. This part is speeches as well as Ethical lessons. In part two, pages 13 and 86 there are interesting annotations – not in the author’s handwriting.
Rabbi Yaakov ben Rabbi Ytzchak Heilperin was killed Al Kiddush Hashem during the Hungarian Uprising. The Serbians revolted against the Hungarians and murdered thirty people from Rabbi Yaakov’s community, hy”d. The day of his death, 10 Shevat was established as a fast day in his community as well as the community of Senta.
The first part of this manuscript, ‘Loshon Tzedek’ was printed in Montreal, 1981. We do not know that the second part, ‘Ketav Nivchar’ was ever printed.
