Manuscript. Prayers for the entire year.
Shalom ben Moshe Kakun. Written in 1899, and completed in 1911.
The author, Shalom ben Moshe Kakun, lived in Oulad Berehil, a southern Moroccan town about 140 Km away from Agadir. He is possibly the son of the great Rabbi Mordechai Kakun, a Dayan in the town Marcharish. Rabbi Mordechai authored the book ‘She’erit Yosef’ whose manuscript is in the National Library [000061742YBZ].
The page count is disordered. Hundreds of pages! Includes printed sections affixed to them.
The author writes in two handwriting styles, square Eastern, and ‘Chatzi-Kolmus’ which is a type of cursive script used by Spanish communities.
The opening part of the book is a section of Psalms in square writing. This is followed by a section with some of ‘Sukka’, Blessings, ‘Tikkun Shovavim’, additional prayers, eulogies, with translation of prayers in Moroccan-Arabic. Also included is piyyutim and songs according to Moroccan custom, yearly calendars including for a leap year. This book is brimming with different prayers. It includes customs of the “Trodanti” communities - these were originally Spanish communities that transplanted to Morocco and preserved their previous homeland’s customs.
