ADOLF HITLER AND NAZI LEADERS (20)
Fine lot of 20 largely first-generation photographs, most 4 x 6 in. or larger, all with scenes mostly of Hitler and early party functionaries and events prior to 1933. The photos bear no photo paper markings on verso, but appear to be contemporary and most likely prints from the studios of Heinrich Hoffmann. These photos are from the estate of ROBERT G. STEPHENS, JR. (1913-2003). Stephens served on the staff of Robert H. Jackson, the U.S. Supreme Court Justice that served as the chief prosecutor for the United States during the Nuremberg War Crimes Trials. Stephens had lived in Germany prior to the outbreak of the war, and later served in the O.S.S. under William J. Donovan. Some bear marginal ink notes identifying the individuals pictured. The possibility exists these were used in researching charges levied against the major war criminals.
