Imrei Yosef - Spinka. First Edition. Segulah Book. Munkacs, 1911

Imrei Yosef - Spinka. First edition. Segulah book

"Without a doubt this book will be a huge, effective protection in your homes, and draw abundant sustenance and success into your dwellings" (blessing of the 'Chakal Yitzchak' of Spinka)

Imrei Yosef - Shemot, Chassidic essays on the Torah by the Admo"r Rabbi Yosef Meir Weiss, who is known by the name of this book before us, as 'the author of Imrei Yosef of Spinka.' Munkacs, 1911. First edition. Segulah book for protection and wealth.

Before us is the first edition of Imrei Yosef, one of the most renowned and important Chassidic works, the famous book by the founder of the Spinka dynasty and one of the most renowned Chassidic leaders. This book, aside from its important Kabbalistic-Chassidic content, also became famous in Chassidic communities also (and possibly primarily) as a segulah book for protection and wealth. This is due to the important foreword by the author's son, the Admo"r Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac of Spinka, author of Chakal Yitzchak, (in this lengthy and important foreword, he effectively establishes the Spinka Chassidic approach) and at the end of this foreword, he promises, "And now, my brothers and friends, hurry to acquire blessing for your homes, because without a doubt this book will be a huge, effective protection in your homes, and for drawing abundant sustenance and success into your dwellings."

The book was printed posthumously, shortly after the passing of the first Admo"r of Spinka. At the end of the book, the author's son's, Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac of Spinka's halachic responsa were printed.

Rabbi Yosef Meir Weiss [1838-1909] was the first Admo"r of Spinka and one of the leading Admo"rs of his generation. He was known by the name of his book, as 'the author of Imrei Yosef.' He was especially renowned as an expert in Kabbalistic doctrine, to the point that the Divrei Chaim of Sanz would consult with him for his questions in Kabbalah. His magnum opus, Imrei Yosef, was almost entirely based on the Ar"i's Kabbalah. The Imrei Yosef was known for his tremendous wonders, as attested by his son, the Chakal Yitzchak: "He enacted multiple and tremendous salvations with his blessings, granting children to childless couples and healing the sick with his supplications. He rent the skies with his prayers, to the point that I can almost say that each word that left his mouth was fulfilled. He made an impression below and a root above, and this is all known as he was famous as the wonder of the generation." His Chassidim increased extensively and reached the thousands, including renowned Torah leaders. Many tales of wonder are told about him. His grave site abroad was a site of prayer and salvation. In 1972, his coffin was brought to the Land of Israel, and he was buried in the special section of the Segulah cemetery in Petach-Tikvah.
