Maaleh Beit Chorin – Passover Haggadah with Commentaries by the Gaon of Vilna and the Chayei Adam – Vilna, 1818 – First Edition of the Commentary by the Chayei Adam
Maaleh Beit Chorin – Passover Haggadah, with the Kol Bo commentary, the commentary of the Gaon of Vilna and the Toldot Adam commentary by R. Avraham Danzig author of Chayei Adam and Chochmat Adam. Vilna, 1818.
First edition of the Chayei Adam's commentary to the Passover Haggadah. The commentary of the Chayei Adam includes kabbalistic sections. The Chayei Adam mentions in several places the commentary of his mechutan, the Gaon of Vilna. In one place, he reports of a discussion they held: "On this topic, I once heard from the Gaon on Purim, and he was asked… and I told him that I still don't understand, and he asked me why I don't understand, since it is written… and then I understood his intention, and I explained the idea, and he heard, and it appears that he agreed that I understood it well" (p. 10a).
