Ohel David. By Rabbi David Deutsch. Vienna, 1825. Glosses in the Author's Handwriting

Ohel David, novellae on tractate Yevamot, by Rabbi David Deutsch, Vienna, 1825. Glosses in the author's handwriting.

Specifications: 22 leaves, approximately 24 cm. Lacking title page.

Unique Features: Throughout the book are fifteen comments in the author's handwriting, mainly long scholarly comments. The author sent the book to the city of Hebron, as is written in his handwriting on the flyleaf. Hence, most of his comments are in block handwriting.

Background: Rabbi David Deutsch [1756-1831], disciple of the Noda B'Yehuda, among the most prominent Hungarian rabbis and friend of the Chatam Sofer. He was sharp and insightful, and his novellae flowed like an overflowing spring. He recorded thoughts and novellae that arose after his books were printed in the margins of the copies in his possession, and what is in one is not in the other.

Condition: Fine. Aging stains. Simple binding.
