MASTERS EDGAR LEE: (1868-1950) American Poet, Biographer & Lawyer. A.Q.S., Edgar Lee Masters, one page, oblong 8vo, n.p., n.d. (1927). Masters has penned a two line quotation, in German, from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, with a typed translation in English beneath, 'He only earns his freedom and existence who daily conquers them anew'. Annotated in ink in the hand of a collector at the head as being Masters' Maxim of Life. One very small, neat split to the right edge of a central horizontal fold, not affecting the text or signature, VG
