HUGO VICTOR: (1802-1885) French Poet and Novelist. An excellent signed drawing by Hugo, one page, 8vo, Brussels, 29th April 1871. The attractive drawing, in red pencil, shows a castle turret. Signed at the base `Victor Hugo´. Hugo wrote in one of his notebooks, on 29th April 1871, `M. G. Frédérix a diné avec nous. Je lui ai donné mon dessin au crayon rouge de la vieille tour de Laecken a condition qu´il plaidera dans l´indépendance belge pour la conservation de la tour. Il a promis.´, (“Mr. G. Frederix has had dinner with us. I gave him my red pencil of the old tower of Laecken with the condition that he will plead for the Belgian independence for the preservation of the tower. He promised.”) An excellent and unusual drawing with very interesting reference to the Belgian tower of Laecken. Very small damages and age wear to the edges and corners, otherwise VG
