Letter handwritten and signed by Rabbi Asher Segel, Av Beit Din of Kiroly and the Glilot, addressed to Rabbi Avraham Yaakov Sofer of Tet, with a mazal tov blessing. 1930
Letter written on an official postcard, written and signed by Rabbi Asher Segel Folk, rabbi of Kiroly Dorvitz and the Galil, addressed to Rabbi Avraham Yaakov Sofer, rabbi of Tet and the Galil, from 1930. He excitedly sends his blessings regarding the recipient’s son’s wedding and to participate with him and he apologizes for his absence, and he tells him that he took a Sofer pen to write down this letter describing his blessings for the rabbi’s son, “may the match be a good one and may they build a bayit ne’eman, etc.” At the end of the letter he asks about his friend and wishes to hear details about his life. Size: 11x16cm. Stains, overall good condition.
Write: Rabbi Asher HaLevi Folk (1900-1989) was the son of Rabbi Moshe, a descendent of Rabbi Yaakov Folk (the baal HaChilukim). He was the son-in-law of Rabbi Yeshayahu Mendelson of Honiad. At age 13 his father died and he was sent to learn under the gaon Rabbi Yosef Leib Sofer of Paksh. He was certified there by the Chief Rabbi of Budapest and in 1924 he was invited to serve in Dorvitz (Transylvania). In 1931 he was selected by the Jewish Assembly in Beleniesh as the district rabbi. He was also well-regarded even by the heads of the Catholic church. At the end of his life he served as rabbi in Kfar Ata, and died in Bnei Brak. See the Encyclopedia of Romanian Jewry, p. 661.
Addressee: Rabbi Avraham Yaakov Sofer (1879-1945) was the son of Rabbi Yisrael Mordechai Ephraim Fishel Sofer, Av Beit Din of Sorvor. He was appointed the rabbi of Jomoro in 1907, where he established a yeshiva with Rabbi Yitzhak Steiner with 1400 bochrim, and in 1913 he was appointed Av Beit Din of Tet (Hungary). He spent a period of his life in Faksh with his grandfather, Rabbi Zussman Sofer, and from there it seems he got to know Rabbi Folk. See Hungarian Communities, p. 97-160.
