Rabbi Moshe Yosef Hoffman, author of the Beer Mayim Haim (1843-1928) was the son of Rabbi Michael, the writer of the Ahut Maharam Mintz. He was a student of the Katav Sofer and Rabbi Natan Binyamin Lieber of Pressburg. He was certified by the Gaon Mahari Asad. He was son-in-law of Rabbi Moshe Weiss of Serdohel and served as Rabbi in Papa in 1882. In 1906 he immigrated to Israel and continued to serve in the rabbinate. He died without children. He published his father’s work, the Shut Maharam Mintz.
