Like many of the Jews of Central Europe, Hermann Struck was fascinated by his encounter with the people of Eastern Europe. He found the vitality of the traditional Jewry most touching. Walking the streets of Kovna, he could not drink his fill. And, typically, what he saw, he put on paper. When he returned to Germany, he published a large album with 50 wonderful lithographs of the Jewish faces of the Eastern Jews he had met.
The album was published in 50 copies only. Each copy is numbered and hand-signed by Struck.
Each one of the lithographs is hand-signed by Struck with pencil.
Very few albums have survived. One of them is kept by the Jewish Museum of Berlin.
The album before is us number 37.
One engraving, no. 32, is missing.
