The collection includes 20 letters handwritten by great political, military and cultural figures. Before our eyes, the fascinating figures of a well-known philosopher, a decorated war hero, a French historian, the Prussian Foreign Minister and an esteemed English earl are revealed. All these and many others give us an exceptional peek into the exciting life of Europe in the 19th century.
Unusual collection. Such manuscripts have never been seen in auctions in Israel!
Following is a description of seven letters from the collection. The description is only of the personalities of the writers. The identities of the addressees and the content of the letters still need to be studied.

A. French letter by Amans-Alexis Monteil (1769-1850), a French historian, one of the first cultural historians. 1847.
Monteil was a historian from the period of the French Revolution who dealt with the history of nationality. He had a special interest in old manuscripts and collected manuscripts that documented the heritage of the French Revolution.
During the French Revolution he served as the secretary of the Auvergne district and later taught at the University of his birth-town Rodez. His statute is placed there to this day.
He was one of the first historians to complain about history being written only by kings and members of the upper classes. Therefore, in his book "The History of the French People in Various Countries", he focused on the story of the simple man.
The letter was written to his friend the knight congratulating him on being knighted.
B. German letter by Baron A. Wendland, (1806-1884), a diplomat of the Bavarian kingdom in France, a close friend and legal representative of Maximillian the Second, the king of Bavaria. 1833.
C. English letter by the 1st earl of Strafford, the hero of the war against the French, John Byng (1772-1860). 1825.
Byng was a fieldmarshal of the British army and a politician. He fought in the Napoleon Wars and the wars against Ireland.
In the famous Battle of Nevil (1813), he ked his soldiers under heavy French fire to conquer the hill successfully. For this he won the Golden Cross. In the Battle of Waterloo (1815), during which the French emperor was defeated, he played an important role in defending Hougoumont Farm, which was the most important strategic structure, and which contributed to the victory of the British army. When he retired from his military service, he was chosen as a member of the British parliament and received earldom for his actions.
D. German letter by the Prussian Foreign Minister, baron Heinrich August Alexander Wilhelm von Werther (1772-1859). Paris, 1841.
Heinrich August Alexander Wilhelm von Werther, Baron, diplomat and the Prussian foreign Minister. Was the representative of Prussia in Spain and London.
The letter was written when he served as the Foreign Minister, while he was staying in France.
E. German letter by the President of the House of Representatives of Wurtemberg, Jacob Friedrich Weishaar (1775-1834), Stuttgart.
Jacob Friedrich Weishaar was an advocate and politician who served as the President of the House of Representatives of Wurtemberg for a whole decade, between the years 1820-1830.
He was one of the major figures in Wurtemberg and greatly influenced it.
Besides being a politician, Weishaar was a great scholar and his book was published by the same publishing house that published the works of Goethe and Schiller.
F. Two German letters by the well-known philosopher, Karl Reinhold. 1801.
One letter is from 15.1.1801; the other is undated.
Karl Reinhold (1757-1823), one of the most important Austrian philosophers after Kant. He was a charismatic and popular lecturer at the Jena University. In 1788, he published the book "The Hebrew Mysteries or The Oldest Form of Freemasonry". The philosophical principle of "Reinhold's Consciousness Principle" is named after him.
G. German letter by the historian and politician, the advisor of the Prussian king, Johann Peter Friedrich Ancillon (1767-1837). 1829.
Johann Peter Friedrich Ancillon was a Prussian historian and politician. He was the teacher of the Prussian prince Frederick William IV and later, when Frederick became king, was his close consultant. He was known for his influence on the king regarding various political issues. He was one of the most influential figures in Prussia, who left his impression on the Prussian court of justice.
Condition: Very Good. The letters are very well-preserved.
