Sefer Ben Ish Chai with Illustrated Signatures of the Young Rabbi Ovadya Yosef, from the Time he Gave Lessons from the Book - Rare!
Ben Ish Chai, Hilchot Shana Rishona, by Rabbi Yosef Chaim of Bagdad, 1912.
Second edition that was printed close to the author's death, with "Moda'ah Rabba" by the author's son. Yehoshua Shlomo Bechor Printing Press. Rare.
The book contains various signatures. The signatures appear on the back cover of the book and at the end of its first part.
The signatures are from Rabbi Yosef's youth. Some of the signatures are unique in that the Rabbi drew them as a round stamp with the Western Wall and the Star-of-David at its center. In one of these "stamps" the Rabbi wrote his father's name.
In 1937, when he was 17 years old, Rabbi Yosef was appointed by Rabbi Ya'akov Dwek to replace him in giving a lesson on the book "Ben Ish Chai" at the "Ohel Rachel" Persian synagogue in the Beit Yisrael neighborhood in Jerusalem. The estimated time of the signatures in the book is about that time. It is most likely that these lessons were given from the book before us!
Rabbi Ovadya Yosef (1918-2014) was born in Bagdad, Iraq and immigrated to Israel in 1925. When he was only 24 years old, he was appointed as a member of the Beit Din of the Sephardic community by Rabbi Uziel. He was known for his exceptional knowledge and as one of the most important Poskim of the generation.
