A Letter of Rabbi Yaakov HaCohen Tarab Av Beit Din of Beirut – 1908

A letter of Rabbi Yaakov the son of Rabbi Yosef Hacohen Tarrab-Maslaton (1851 – 1923), the Chacham Bashi of Beirut and its Av Beit Din. He was an expert in the hidden and the revealed Torah, in Halacha and in Aggadah. On Shabbat he would give lectures which were published in his book "Dvar Yaakov". He also published a book "Beit Yaakov" and "She'erit Yaakov".
The letter is addressed to "Aharon the holy one of G-d", "Av Beit Din of the Ashkenazi congregation…". It seems that this is referring to Rabbi Aharon Mendel HaCohen (1866 – 1926), who was born in Tiberius and later served as the Rabbi of the Ashkenazi congregation in Cairo for 30 years (in particular became well-known for his attempts to reinstate the smicha).
The letter deals with the matter of a woman whose husband does not financially support her and plays with dice, and tells of efforts that the family are putting in to bring him back to the right path. Eastern writing.
