Alshich on the Torah – complete set with 5 title pages – Dyhernfurth 1793 - Privileged Copy
The book "Torat Moshe" by the Kabbalist Rabbi Moshe Alshich. Two volumes on the five books of the Torah, with five separate title pages – one for each Chumash.
The Alshich was one of the great sages of Safed and was ordained by Rabbi Moshe Cordovero (the Ramak), (the Ramak ordained Rabbi Moshe Alshich, and the Alshich ordained the student of his yeshiva, Rabbi Chaim Vital, who was his student in the Kabbalah of the Ari). In his later years he led the entire community of Safed. His book "Torat Moshe" is one of the basic books of commentary on the Chumash through homily.
At the end of volume 2: "even though our sages forbade writing on the book, but to sign is permitted, so that someone from the marketplace will not come and say it is mine – belongs to the great gaon Rabbi Yehuda, Av Beit Din of the holy congregation of Samter. Samter 16th Sivan 1818".
This inscription shows that the book belonged to Rabbi Yehuda Leib Segal Kalisher (1750-1822) who served as a Dayan in Lissa, and afterwards, as far as we know, served as Av Beit Din of Samter (Szamotuły) in Poland, one of the great geniuses of his generation, Av Beit Din of Lissa in the period of the rabbinate of the author of "Chavat Da'at" and "Netivot HaMishpat". In the year 1820 he published his book "Ha'Yad Ha'Chazaka". Died in 1822. His son, Rabbi Yehoshua Leib Feibelman, was the father in law (from his second marriage) and the brother in law of Rabbi Akiva Eiger, and also served as the Av Beit Din of Samter.
On the title page of volume 1 is a faded inscription: "belongs to the rabbi the gaon…k.s.t…Yuda[?] holy congregation…" and the signatures: "this Alshich belongs…to the rabbi Menachem Katz".
On both volumes are various signatures (on the title pages of the book) of Rabbi Gershon Manis. Stamps of his father Rabbi Neta Shlomo Green (an illustration of the Western Wall in the stamp). He immigrated to Israel in 1898. He served as the trustee of Kollel Hungaria. His son's signature: "Mordechai Green". Additional ancient signatures.
Red page cutting. Part of the text on the title page is in red ink.
