Responsa of the Tzemach Tzedek by Rabbi Menachem Mendel Krochmal, rabbi of Nikolsburg and the Merhin District.
Rabbi Menachem Mendel Krochmal, one of the greatest rabbis of Ashkenaz, a student of the Bach. From 1648 he served as rabbi of Nikolsburg and the area, and was active in finding solutions for agunot after the pogroms of 1648-1649. In this position he established many rules throughout Moravia regarding community leadership and taxation, he stood up for the poor people and opposed the heads of the communities and the rich people. In his responsa are exchanges of letters with the other leaders of the generation – the author of the Taz, the "Tosefot Yom Tov" and the "Maginei Shlomo".
On the title page is a handwritten signature: "Moshe Yisrael". This seems to refer to Rabbi Moshe Yisrael, the rabbi of Rhodes. We do not know if this is the author of the book "Masa'at Moshe" or the author of the book "Moshe Yedaber": two rabbis with the name Rabbi Moshe Yisrael – a grandfather and his grandson – served in Rhodes, both of them were known as the leaders of their generation.

Condition: Fair. Lots of moth holes in the first third of the book. The rest of the book is in good condition with a few holes. Not original cover.
