Handwritten halachic responsa by Hagaon Harav Shlomo Eiger, Av Beis Din of Posen, regarding

matters of purity. This responsa was not included in the Responsa of Rabbi Shlomo Eiger, and to the best of our knowledge is unpublished.

Hagaon Harav Shlomo Eiger (1785-1852) was the son of Rabbi Akiva Eiger, a brilliant Torah scholar who was revered by all his contemporaries. He succeeded his father as Rav of Posen.

Upon his passing, his nephew, author of Ksav Sofer, delivered a tearful eulogy upon the Torah sage. “My great and venerated uncle, who was great in Torah, sharp and fluent in all the text… He was a man who encompassed all—a Torah giant with an exalted soul… He was renowned among the world as a genius and served as Rav in Kalish and Posen … Upon these I weep, a double sorrow for father and son… Now we must arouse ourselves in tears upon the father [Rabbi Akiva Eiger], who until now, was with us since his son, my uncle Shlomo, had filled his place. Now we have lost both father and son…”
