Handwritten Parchment Pages – Culenborg Community, Holland, 1860 – Poem about a Countess who was Active in the Community during the 16th Century – Most Rare
Handwritten page on parchment with a rhymed poem, Hebrew and Dutch, by Reb Leib Lepison, prayer leader, shochet and bodek in the Culenborg community, in honor of Countess Elizabeth, who founded the orphanage in Culenborg in the 16th century.
The poem was written on 28.8.1860, the 300th yahrzeit of the countess. At the head of the page there are several lines in Dutch about the poem.
The poem praises the Countess for her charity. Among others, it is written: "you have reached forth your hands to the needy and stretched out your palms to the orphans". The acrostic (in Hebrew and in Dutch), spells out the name "Elizabeth".
Condition: Good.
