PENNSYLVANIA MAN ACCUSED OF "FORNICATION AND BASTARDY"
A.L.S., 1p. folio., Adams County, PA, Jan. 20, 1862, a letter from the state judge Robert J. Fisher to the Sherriff of Adams County, commanding him to '...take the body of Christian Bucher...have his body before the Judges of a Court...for the County of Adams...to answer us concerning a certain Bill of Indictment for Fornication and Bastardy there depending against him...'. Additional notation by the Sheriff on the reverse side indicates that Bucher was brought before the court and has paid bail before his court date. Original folds, mild spots of soiling, else very good. The Pennsylvania law remained in place until at least 1975.
