KU KLUX KLAN ROBE, HOOD, AND BELT
An incredibly scarce relic from the Ku Klux Klan, a clearly vintage Klan robe, hood, and belt, originating from the Klan's provincial group in Perry County, Ohio, and likely stemming from the group's rebirth in the early 1920s to 1930s. The lot includes the cotton Klan robe, 46 in. collar-to-waist, 29.5 in. wide, 19 in. sleeves, with an attached cape. The garment is originally closed with six white buttons at the front, though one button is absent. A 'Blood Drop Cross' patch has been stitched to the left breast, and the numerals '3375' have been inscribed twice in ink surrounding the collar. The cotton Klan hood, 26 in. tall, 11 in. wide, bears a neck shield and face mask, cut-out eyes, and a tan tassal at top, which was likely painted red at one point due to a faded pink color there. The left side bears a sewn-on white felt patch, which itself bears a sewn-on letter 'E' in blue felt. The interior contains a conical canvas lining, the inside of which also bears the black ink stamp '3375'. An original white rope belt, measuring 96 in. wide, is also present. The entire ensemble bears notable spots of brown staining throughout, with some general wear consistent with age and frequent use. Just good condition.
