MAX IMMELMANN
(1890 - 1916) First German World War I flying ace and a pioneer in fighter aviation. He was the first aviator to win the Pour le Merite, and was credited with 15 aerial victories, killed in combat against the British. Rare war-date S.P., 3.5 x 5.5 in. sepia, a Sanke 362 postcard showing Immelmann with his devoted mastiff 'Tyras', inscribed in German: 'Best wishes, Max with Tyras'. Very fine condition.
