A RUSSIAN GARDNER PORCELAIN FIGURINE LATE 19TH C
A naturalistic porcelain figurine depicting a peasant making traditional shoes from a bark (bast shoes). The figurine is skilfully executed and carefully painted. On the base there is a red oval stamp "A GARDNER FACTORY in Moscow" (in Russian) under a two-headed crowned eagle, number "22" and one more mark with the inscription "GARDNER" in Russian. The famous Gardner factory was considered the best porcelain enterprise of the Russian Empire. Similar figurines depicting peasant life were very popular in the 19th century.
