This is one of the earliest examples of the fruit of man’s efforts to extract copper from minerals and to fashion weapons, vessels and tools. Cf. Bar-Adon, P. T he Cave of the Treasure: the finds from the caves in Nahal Mishmar. Jerusalem: Israel Exploration Society. 1980, pp. 122-137, (Hebrew).
The Chalcolithic Period, ca. 4th millennium B.C.E. is the transition between the New Stone Age and the Bronze Age or Canaanite era when man discovered how to extract copper from minerals the first step in making tools weapons and vessels from bronze alloy.
