RABBI YAAKOV KAMENETZKY, ROSH YESHIVA TORAH VADAAS, THREE HANDWRITTEN SIGNED LETTERS TO RABBI ARYEH SCHECHTER.

1. Letter dated 1969, supporting the cause in which Rabbi Schechter was involved at the time, ‘which is very exalted and important, as confirmed by the gaon Rabbi Y Y Kanievsky of Bnei Brak’.
2. Letter dated 1971, asking Rabbi Schechter to come to Monsey to make peace in a communal dispute, ‘if your honour would come here to help, he would save the situation’.
3. Letter to Rabbi Schechter permitting him to add Rabbi Kaminetzky’s name to the signatories of a letter of support for a communal activist, as he was about to travel and he was unable to prepare a letter of his own at that time.

Rabbi Yaakov Kamenetzky (b. 1891-1986), studied at the Yeshivos of Slabodka and Lomza. Son-in-law of Rabbi Dov Hirsh Heller – Mashgiach of the Lomza Yeshiva. Rabbi of Tzitvian in Lithuania (1926-1937), before leaving for America where he served as Rabbi of Seattle and later in Toronto (1938-1945). He was then appointed lecturer - and later as Rosh Yeshiva at Yeshiva Torah Vadaas. He was recognised as on of the greatest American rabbinical leaders, and is the author of Emes Le’Yaakov and other works..

Rabbi Aryeh Schechter (1937-2020), studied at the Slabodka Yeshiva and was close to the Chazon Ish, Rabbi Yitzchak Ze’ev Soloweitchik of Brisk and Rav Chaim Greineman, as well as to Rabbi Shaul Kosovsky. During the 1950s he was active in promoting religious life among immigrants in new Israeli settlements and towns, and in later years he became involved in the Arachim movement and other organisations that have brought many secular Israelis back to religious observance. For a time, he studied regularly together with Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky. Some of his lectures have been published under the title Aryeh Sha’ag.
