Interesting Personal Letter from Rabbi Ya'akov Yosef Slonim – Hebron 1921
Letter from the last rabbi of Hebron, rabbi Ya'akov Yosef Slonim to Rabbi Dr. David di Sola Paul, the supervisor on behalf of the American Assistance in the Land of Israel.
The letter is written on official stationery in the handwriting and with the signature of Rabbi Slonim and in it he describes his difficult situation. He also reminds the addressee of a promise he had been given to help his two sons financially.
Rabbi Ya'akov Yosef Slonim was a direct descendant of the Chabad Rebbes. Following in their footsteps, he founded and developed the Ashkenazic community in Hebron. He served as the rabbi of the city until the 1929 Palestine Riots, during which his son, Reb Eliezer Dan, who was a banker and the only Jewish member of the town's council, was killed.
Rabbi Dr. David di Sola Paul served as rabbi and president of the 'She'erit Yisrael' community in New York for 63 years. He was one of the greatest Jewish statesmen in the USA at the time.
