Babylonian Talmud, Ta'anit – The First Tractate Printed – Special Publication for the learners of the Daf Yomi and Mishna Yomit – The First Book of the Mishna Yomit Enterprise – Munich 1947 – She'erit Ha'Pleta
Ta'anit tractate of the Babylonian Talmud. "A gift of the Va'ad Ha'Tzala of She'erit Ha'Pleta". Published by Va'ad Ha'Hatzala – Rabbi Naftali Barod and Rabbi Aviezer Burstein. Munich 1947.
The book opens with a letter of Va'ad Ha'Hatzala, Germany. After it, there are four pages of a calendar combining the Daf Yomi and the Mishna Yomit for the following years: 1947-1952.
Under the calendar, there is a special prayer "said after finishing a chapter of the Mishna Yomit". The prayer was composed by Rabbi Yonah Shtentzel in memory of the victims of the Holocaust. Rabbi Shtentzel realized the idea of studying a daily Mishna, which was first suggested by Rabbi Arye Zvi Frimer in 1938.
Rabbi Shtentzel suggested that the learners of the Daf Yomi will study a daily Mishna from Zera'im and Teharot and the rest of the public will study two daily Mishnayot of all the tractates in order to commemorate the six million Jews who were murdered during the Holocaust. Mishna has the same letters as Neshama (soul); therefore studying Mishna is appropriate in memory of the six million.
