Two books printed as a talisman for survival during the Holocaust, the eve of the German invasion to Hungary – Rare
A. Raziel Ha'Malach, Groswardein, 1943.
Raziel Ha'Malach Book, attributed to Adam.
On the title page it is printed: "Talisman … and any blights will not become him, he who owns this book … and in times of trouble, he will be saved without delay"; "Even he who does not study the book, but it is in house … will certainly be saved from the terrible fire and destruction". This was written on the eve of the terrible Holocaust!
This is one of the last books that were printed in Groswardein before the Germans invaded Hungary and the Jews were sent to their death. The book before us survived the Holocaust.
On the title page there is a handwritten inscription: "I have bought with the fruit of my labor this precious book … Yosef Chaim … Shalom Si'ani … 1952" Rabbi Yosef Chaim Si'ani was one of the Yemen rabbis. There are many of his ownership stamps inside the book as well.
3-60 pp.
Condition: Good. The jacket of the book is missing. Slight tears on the title page. Many Kabbalist illustrations.
B. Sha'arei Yeshua, talismans of the Ba'al shem Tov. Saklahid, approximately 1943. Second edition printed at the eve of the Holocaust there. With agreements and an introduction printed for the first time in this edition.
The first edition of this book was printed in 1919. Two agreements that were written for the first edition were printed only in the edition before us.
At the beginning of the book, there is an interesting introduction to this edition in which the publisher writes that only the three letters printed in this book were surely copied from the manuscript of the Baal Shem Tov, in contrast with his other writings, which were delivered orally and there is no certainty as to their accuracy. He adds: "Maybe these three letters are the three talismans which the Ba'al Shem Tov hinted at in a letter that said that the Messiah will come by their means".
26, [5] pp.
Condition: Very Good. The cover is slightly worn out. Uncut pages.
