Handwritten Letter by Rabbi Shem Tov Gabbay, Primary Disciple of the Ohr HaChaim HaKadosh. Jerusalem, 1747

Handwritten letter by 'HaRav HaKollel" Rabbi Shem Tov Gabbay, primary disciple of the Ohr HaChaim, who ascended with him from Morocco to the Land of Israel.

Condolence letter to Rabbi Avraham Igress of Livorno, son of the gaon and kabbalist Rabbi Yosef Igress of Livorno, author of Shomer Emunim and Mevo Petachim; upon the passing of his paternal uncle, philanthropist Rabbi Moshe Igress.
Rabbi Shem Tov Gabbay was the Ohr HaChaim HaKadosh's primary disciple. He ascended with him from Morocco to the Land of Israel and studied in the Ohr HaChaim's yeshivah, Knesset Yisrael, in Jerusalem. He signed together with the Ohr HaChaim's disciples on their introduction to Rishon L'Tziyon. Rabbi Shem Tov led philanthropist Mordechai Taluk's yeshivah together with the gaon Rabbi Yonah Navon, author of Nechpah BaKesef. The Chid"a mentions him in Shem HaGedolim: "Tov VaChessed - legal sermons on the weekly Torah portions written by HaRav HaKollel Rabbi Shem Tov Gabbay, who was a disciple of the wondrous Rabbi Chaim ben Attar ztz"l; they are in manuscript." (Sources: Shem HaGedolim in the entry on Tov VaChessed, the list of yeshivahs at the end of HaMa'alot LiShlomo, Toldot Chachmei Yerushalayim, Part III, pp. 36).
