IAN HAMILTON
(1853 - 1947) Scottish British Army General, who, after an extensive British Imperial military career in the Victorian/Edwardian era, commanded the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force in the Gallipoli Campaign. Good content T.L.S., 1p. 8vo., London, May 11, 1944 on an appeal launched 'in memory of that gallant Soviet soldier, General [Nikolai] Vatutin, writing as one who has seen the Russian Rand and File sometimes in battle, sometimes on maneuvers and sometimes as a prisoner, I feel you could not hit on a happier method of touching their hearts. Herewith I enclose 25 [pounds]...' Marginal ink note and staple holes, else very good.
