HUSBAND E. KIMMEL

(1882-1968) American admiral and Commander of the Pacific Fleet when it was attacked by the Japanese at Pearl Harbor. Kimmel was consequently dismissed. He fought the charges for years, claiming that Roosevelt had prior knowledge of the attack. A.L.S. on his personal letterhead, 1p. 4to., Groton, CT, March 2, 1956, to a "Mr. Richmond" discussing a rally held at Carnegie Hall, adding in part: 'As I expected the N.Y. Times made no mention of it...American had a short article only...It is next to impossible to get publicity for such an effort in New York City. They know well that the most effective suppression is to ignore as much as possible...' 'Mr. Richmond' is likely FREDERICK W. RICHMOND (1923-1982), American politician and civic leader who plead guilty to corruption charges, as Richmond famously worked in the 1960s to help save Carnegie Hall from demolition. Kimmel signs boldly at the conclusion. Fine.
