(1845 - 1937) Secretary of War under William McKinley and Secretary of State under Theodore Roosevelt, recipient of the 1912 Nobel Peace Prize for his mediation in European and Latin American disputes. Panana Canal-related content T.L.S. on United States Senate letterhead, 1p. 4to., Washington, Feb. 28, 1911, to a Mr. Clinch about the appointment of Judge T. Edwin Brown to the Supreme Court of the "Canal Zone". In part: "...Brown's name was brought to my attention in this connection early in the winter, and I took pleasure in bringing the matter to the attention of The President...I am glad to know your good opinion..." Root signs at the conclusion in black ink. Folds, else very good.
