Camera Purchased by the Admor Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn as a Gift for His Grandson

Original Photograph of the Raya”tz Taken with This Very Camera

Special Rubel the Raya”tz Gave His Grandson as a Memento

Three valuable historic items granting us a glimpse into the personal lives of the Admor Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn, the sixth admor of the Chabad dynasty.

R' Shalom Dov Ber, grandson of the Raya”tz and the recipient of these gifts, disclosed that this camera was purchased specially for him as a gift from the Admor. When he wanted to take a photograph of his holy grandfather with his new camera, the Raya”tz acquiesced and set aside precious time, and even put on his Shabbos suit for the occasion.

The photograph taken is included as well. This photograph has become one of the most famous photographs of the Rayat”tz.

Also included is a Russian rubel which the Raya”tz gave his grandson as well. Upon giving him this rubel, the Raya”tz told his grandson: “This is so that you should remember where you come from, " urging his grandson to remember where he comes from and his family's majestic past in Soviet Russia, where they fought a holy religious battle against the communists.

The three items included:
1. The original German Voigtlander Skopar Folding Camera, made in the early twentieth century

2. The Russian rubel given by the Raya”tz to his grandson

3. Original photograph of the Raya”tz taken by his grandson. There is a signed dedication from his son in-law Rabbi Shmarya Gur Aryeh  on the verso dating back to 1949, still during the lifetime of the Raya”tz.

Attached is a handwritten and signed letter from the grandson verifying the above details.

Photograph: 35 x 27 cm | Small tear and fixed cracks.
