Heavy cast copper relief Matityahu according to Zeev Raban Sculpture Moshe Moro Example Bezalel Israel Weight: 99 grams Size 10/6.5 cm "מתתיהו החשמונאי" הוא פסל מאת הפסל היהודי בוריס שץ. הפסל מציג את המנהיג הלאומי היהודי מתתיהו הכהן, כשהוא אוחז בחרב ודורך ברגלו על גופת חייל סלאוקי. אופן הצגה זה קשור אל תמה אידאולוגית של "ניצחון הטוב על הרע", כפי שהוא מתבטא למשל בעיצוב דמותו של פרסאוס בפיסול של המאה ה-15. לדברי חוקר האמנות יגאל צלמונה דגם הקסדה שלראשו הכרות של החייל שבפסל הוא הדגם שהיה בשימוש חיילי המשמר הצרפתי בעת יצירתו. במהלך עבודת הפיסול התרחשה בצרפת פרשת דרייפוס, והשימוש בדגם הקסדה הצרפתית נעשה ככל הנראה כמחאה על הפרשה ועל האנטישמיות שהופגנה במהלכה בצרפת. שץ יצר את הפסל בשנת 1894, בעת שהותו בפריז. בשנת 1905 תועד הפסל באוצר בית המלוכה הבולגרי אך מאז אבדו עקבותיו. באוסף מוזיאון תל אביב לאמנות מצויה גרסה של ראש הפסל בלבד, יצוק גבס צבוע, המתוארכת אף היא לשנת 1894. ייתכן כי שימשה מתווה הכנה לפסל. The Tel Aviv Museum of Art's collection contains only a version of the sculptor's head, painted gypsum cast, which also dates to 1894. It may have been used as a preparation outline for the sculpture.
