Miniature Sefer Tehillim, Paris 1545. A Magnificent Copy

A Miniature Sefer Tehillim, Paris 1545. A charming copy of Sefer Tehillim in magnificent condition, printed by the famed French printer Robert Estienne. Measures only 10.5cm!

This volume was originally part of a larger set comprising nearly 20 volumes on all of Tanach. The Estienne Bible has long been considered a “typographical jewel”, and till this day it remains one of the most sought after and collectible Hebrew Bibles due to its striking and beautiful layout.

The Sefer Tehillim volume in pristine condition like the present lot is especially rare, and was even reissued in 1565 by Estienne as an individual volume, to replace those copies from this edition which were damaged or missing due to heavy use.

See also Schreiber (Estienne 82) who notes: “This pocket Hebrew Bible has always been regarded as one of the most impressive examples of Hebrew printing of the French Renaissance... The edition is very rare and is seldom found complete and in good condition”.

In excellent, like-new condition. Bound in an early 19th century full leather binding with gilt accents. All edges gilt. Notes in Latin seen in the margins of many leaves.

Page size: 10.5cm
[159] pp.
