Ottoman banknotes were used throughout the Ottoman Empire, sometimes alongside other European banknotess. Most of the Ottoman notes are decorated with the Torah image, the signature of the Ottoman Sultan.
Ottoman banknotes were the main coins used in Israel in the 19th century.
The Ottoman Empire was an empire that existed for 624 years, from the end of the 13th century to the beginning of the 20th century, and stretched from Southeastern Europe to North Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. The Ottoman Empire was among the main political powers in the world from the 15th century to the beginning of the 18th century, and posed a threat to European countries until it disintegrated, after World War I, and gave way to modern Turkey.
