Faith Lowell "Growing Up" Landscape Painting 1982
Faith Lowell (American, 1922-2015). Oil on canvas painting titled "Growing Up" depicting a rocky landscape, 1982. Signed and dated along the lower right; titled along the verso.

Faith McNaughton Lowell, born in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1922, began her artistic journey by attending commercial art school in Chicago, where she studied under the influence of painters like George Inness and Winslow Homer at the Chicago Art Institute. After marrying John Lowell in 1946, the couple settled in St. Paul, where Faith balanced raising five daughters with her career as an illustrator for religious education materials. In 1964, she transitioned to exhibiting her own paintings, drawing inspiration from her surroundings, including regular visits to the North Shore, and became part of an artistic community in St. Paul's Lowertown district, mentored by renowned painter Paul Kramer. Her works, primarily in oils, are celebrated for their depiction of nature and are held in esteemed institutional collections such as those of the University of Minnesota, 3M Co., and the Hazelden Foundation.
