The Holy Rabbi Shimon Sidan of Nadash (1815 – 1892), was a prominent disciple of the renowned "Chatam Sofer." In his youth, he studied under his uncle, Rabbi Shmuel Nadash, head of the rabbinical court of Yergen, and also under Rabbi Yechezkel Banet in Nitra. At the age of 13, he traveled to study in Pressburg at the yeshiva of the "Chatam Sofer, " where he received special affection and closeness from the Chatam Sofer and was even among those who ate at his table. After studying Torah for 29 years, he was ordained by the Chatam Sofer as "Morenu" . "When I turned 13, I came to the holy community of Pressburg to study under my master, the great Rabbi, the Chatam Sofer, of blessed memory... I dedicated day and night to the study of Torah and found favor in my master's eyes, and I was among those who ate at his table... I had the merit to serve him, and he was like a father to me...". From the year 1840, he began serving as a rabbi in various cities in Hungary, and in 1848, he was appointed as the rabbi of the community of Tyrnau. His innovations were printed in the sefer "Shevet Shimon."
The Renowned Gaon Rabbi Yaakov Meir Tzvi Friedlander (passed away in Cheshvan 1847), head of the rabbinical court of Šurany from 1830, had a close friendship with the Chatam Sofer. He even collected funds from community members for the "known causes" of the Chatam Sofer, for which the Chatam Sofer thanked him especially (Shu"t Chatam Sofer, Collection of Responsa, Siman 55). Additionally, he corresponded with the Chatam Sofer on matters of Halacha, and the Chatam Sofer responded to him with respect and honor. His grandson is the holy Rabbi Shaul Brach, of blessed memory, who printed his innovations under the title "Derech Yamah, " which were published at the end of the "Shu"t Maharam Schick." His son-in-law was the renowned Gaon Rabbi Chaim Tzvi Manheimer of Ungvar, of blessed memory.
