A huge ivory key received by President Ben-Zvi from the Municipality of Monrovia, Liberia, 1962. On the establishment of relations in Liberia (a country in West Africa) with handwritten documents. On the key is a gold plate.

The key carries a small plaque, apparently made of gold, with a handwritten booklet with the mayor's speech on it, on the occasion of President Yitzhak Ben - Zvi's and his wife's visit to Liberia in 1962. 

The Gifts for Public Sources Law was enacted in 1978 and therefore this item remains in the possession of Yitzhak Ben Zvi.


Yitzhak Ben-Zvi (Shimshlevitch) (in Russian script: Ицхак Бен-Цви. Originally: Ицхок Шимшелевич) April 23, 1963) was the second President of the State of Israel, a pioneer in the period of the Second Aliyah, a historian and one of the leaders of the labor movement in Israel. Among his public positions were one of the founders of Poalei Zion, chairman of the National Committee, a member of the Jerusalem Community Committee and a member of the Knesset on behalf of Mapai. As a researcher, he dealt with the history of the people of Israel and the Land of Israel and focused on the study of the various communities of Israel, especially the Eastern community. Elected three times as President of the State of Israel, from December 8, 1952, until his death in 1963.
