Rare: Tanya—third edition, published during the lifetime of the Admor HaZaken. Zolkva 1805
Third edition of the Sefer HaTanya, printed during the lifetime of the author, Admor HaZaken. The title page notes “and we added additional material from the author on the significance of tshuva, a third section that was not in the first editions printed in Slavita [with emphasis on the block letter of the word Slavita].” This edition appears in bibliographic lists as the third edition of the Tanya (see: Torat Chabad, Bibliographies p. 46-49), but Mundschein states that this edition is actually the fifth, while Stefanski (Stefanski Chassidut 625) things it’s the fourth. Regardless it was printed during the author’s lifetime. Printed in Zolkva by Avraham Yehuda Leib Meir Hoffer after 1805. [59] leaves. 18cm. Name of the book not written at the tops of pages. Bolded titles for the second section “called Chinuch Katan” and the third section “Brief Exegesis on Tshuva”. Stains (one of them, on the last page, hides some of the printed words). Antique signatures of ownership, probably from the period of printing. Overall good condition. Old binding is a little worn at the edges.
