Pedigreed. Interesting notation in the name of the author, Beit Yisrael, by Rabbi Aryeh Leib Levin - Liverpool, 1903.
Chidushim on the Torah and the Shas, with approbations by the rabbis of England. First edition.
Pedigreed copy ownership stamp: "אבא ליב בהגאון ש"מ שפירא שערשאב" - one of the Geonim of Lithuania, signed Piskei Din alongside Rabbi Chaim Brisker. Rabbi Abba Leib was educated at the Volozhin Yeshiva and in 1908, was appointed the Rav of the Misnagdim in Vitebsk.
On the last leaf, an interesting notation: שמעתי בשם המחבר נ"י בשם הרה"ג מרדכי ז"ל מסוויסליוץ" - commentary on why 'אשר יחסר לו' refers to a woman. Interesting and fascinating.
The notation refers to Rabbi Mordechai Shotz, the Rav of Svislutz, Lithuania, author of Ahavat Mordechai and Torat Mordechai.
