First edition. Ohel Yaakov - Frankfurt an der Oder, 1719. Impressive engraving. 

Ohel Yaakov, a work on puzzling Mamarim of the Shas, Aggadic novellae, Chidushei Te'amim, Pshatim, Drushim and Chidushei Dinim on Yoreh Deah. By the Gaon Rabbi Yaakov Kahana Shapiro Av Beit Din of Titshin. 

Frankfurt an der Oder, 1719. First edition. The book was edited by the author's sons, Rabbi Moshe Meshil Kahana Shapiro and Rabbi Yitzchak Kahana Shapiro, the leader of the Trespoli community in Lithuania. At the beginning of the book, forewords by these sons. The book also contains novellae by his son Rabbi Moshe and some by his second son, Rabbi Yitzchak. 

The book contains 17 approbations by leading contemporary rabbis. 

The title page is an illustrated wood-engraving depicting biblical stories, Moshe and Aharon, Yaakov's dream, Yitzchak's binding, King David and more. 


Pedigreed copy that was owned by the holy Admor Rabbi Yehoshua of Ostrova author of Toldot Adam. On the title page, a stamp of the Admor Rabbi "יהושע בהרב המנוח מוהרש"ל זצלל"ה זיע"א – מסאסנאוויטץ וכעת באסטראווי" - the Admor Rabbi Yehoshua of Ostrova (passed away in 1873, Encyclopedia LeChassidut II, pp. 52-53). the son of Rabbi Shlomo Leib of Lentshno and a disciple of the Sar Sholom of Belz. Succeeded his father as leader of a large community of thousands of Chassidim and was known for his greatness and sanctity. Author of the book Toldot Adam (Josefpw, 1875) which was known in Poland as Noam Elimelech Hakatan. His only daughter married Rabbi Yitzchak Yaakov Rabinowitz of Biala, the first Admor of Biala author of the Divrei Binah.
